On the weekend Zofia flew back to Europe to work at a conference and two friends from my hometown in Austria came to visit me. They will travel with me for a bit through India and Nepal. I picked them up at Delhi Airport and we drove directly to Hardiwar, where Marco and Anja (rockinrosie.com) were waiting for us. In the evening we attended the famous yatra on the Ganges.
On the next day, we drove to Rishikesh, an hour further north.
In 1968, the Beatles came here to study Transcendental Meditation at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Ashram. The peaceful environment of the Himalayan foothills inspired them to compose 48 songs, which featured on Yellow Submarine, the White Album and Abbey Road.
After their visit to Rishikesh, the city became a popular destination among international tourists. Yoga and meditation became a new trend and Rishikesh got a hub for yoga and meditation.
Today Rishikesh is the Yoga Capital of the World, and every professional and serious Yoga teacher travels to Rishikesh at least once – to practice and learn from India’s most renowned Gurus.
Tomorrow we will leave this spiritual place already and will leave India and cross the border to Nepal.
